1/32 Lewis Belgian Version
The Belgian Lewis Gun is a notable foreign‑service variant of the iconic Lewis light machine gun, adopted by Belgium during World War I as part of its urgent rearmament after the German invasion. Valued for its portability, reliability, and high volume of fire, the Lewis gun became an important component of Belgian infantry and aviation units fighting alongside the Allies.
Belgian Lewis guns were typically chambered in .303 British, supplied through British production, though some later examples were adapted to 7.65×53mm Mauser to align with Belgian small‑arms standardization. Like the British Mk.I, the Belgian version used the familiar top‑mounted pan magazine (usually 47 rounds) and retained the air‑cooling barrel shroud, making it well suited for sustained fire in trench warfare.
In Belgian service, the Lewis gun was employed in infantry, fortress defense, and aircraft roles, appreciated for being significantly lighter and more mobile than traditional heavy machine guns. Its flexibility allowed Belgian forces to field effective automatic fire despite limited industrial capacity during wartime exile.
