you may want to ask Jinsop Lee, former professor of design. as a TED Talent Search winner, he took the stage in 2013 to share his theory of five-sense design, a concept that rethinks how we experience the world
yes, good design should look great ... but why shouldn't it also feel great, smell great, sound great, even taste great? it's why car manufacturers go to such lengths to perfect that new car smell. or why they invest heavily in sound design, so electric cars still offer that same visceral audio feedback as traditional combustion counterparts
Lee's idea is simple but radical. the more senses you engage - consciously or unconsciously - the deeper and more memorable the experience. the key take away? design isn't just about form or function. It is about feeling. and feeling, as we know, comes through the senses.
