The Gnome Monosoupape 9N is an advanced and widely respected rotary engine from the early 20th century, known for its robust design and significant role in powering World War I aircraft. Developed by the French Gnome company, the 9B-2 is a nine-cylinder, air-cooled rotary engine capable of delivering approximately 160 horsepower. Its name, "Monosoupape" (French for "single valve"), reflects its unique single-valve per cylinder design, which simplified engine mechanics, improved reliability, and reduced weight—key advantages in early aviation.

With a displacement of around 16 liters, the 9N was prized for its powerful yet straightforward design, which minimized the need for complex maintenance.
