1/72 Hotchkiss M1914
The Hotchkiss M1914 is one of the most iconic and reliable heavy machine guns of World War I, widely used by French and Allied forces throughout the conflict. Developed by Hotchkiss et Cie in France, the M1914 was a fully automatic, air-cooled weapon that combined rugged construction with consistent performance under battlefield conditions.
Chambered in 8mm Lebel for French service (and in other calibers for export, including .30-06 Springfield for U.S. forces), the M1914 used metal feed strips holding 24 rounds each. While slower to reload than belt-fed designs, the strips were robust and resistant to dirt and debris, making the gun exceptionally reliable in trench warfare conditions. The weapon’s design allowed for sustained fire from a tripod mount, and it could also be mounted on vehicles or used in fortified positions.
The Hotchkiss M1914 became a mainstay of Allied firepower, deployed extensively on the Western Front and in colonial campaigns. Its accuracy, durability, and ease of maintenance earned it a reputation as one of the most dependable heavy machine guns of the era, capable of delivering effective suppressive fire over long periods.
